& North Creek Outdoor Classroom

     The North Creek Outdoor Classroom was developed from a patch of ground next to Creek Elementary. Teachers from Creek Elementary and Mustang North Middle School had dreams of taking learning into the great outdoors; so work was begun with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, other agencies, and our administrators. We broke new ground for an outdoor classroom that would become a unique learning environment for Mustang children.

     The outdoor classroom is on six acres of land. The pond is one and a half acres. An island for nesting Canadian Geese was placed in the center of the pond. Native wetlands’ plants from Lake Eufaula were brought in to create the wetlands’ habitat. In addition to the plants, wood duck boxes were brought in to make the habitat. Businesses in Mustang and surrounding communities were willing to donate materials and labor to aid in the construction of the outdoor classroom.

     The Etta Fisher One Room Schoolhouse was constructed on the North-Creek Outdoor Classroom land during the summer of 2002. The ribbon cutting ceremony and dedication occurred on Tuesday, October 15, 2002. This is a work in progress. We are always accepting donations for landscaping materials and antiques for the schoolhouse, please contact Karla James at Mustang Creek either by e-mail or phone (405)324-4567. Student Rules of Behavior for a 19th Century School

1. All students will be polite and considerate, and will demonstrate good manners at all times.

2. Students will sit at their desks unless given permission to leave their seats.

3. Students will sit straight with both feet flat on the floor. Hands will be folded on the desk when not engaged in school work.

4. Students will raise their hands for permission to speak. When the permission is granted, students will rise to their feet before speaking.

5. Students will not talk or pass notes among themselves.

6. Students will follow instructions and work without interruptions.

7. Students will not turn around in their seats, nor in any manner let their attention wander from their studies.
